About The OCC
Founded in Jan 1997, The Off-Camber Crawlers, Inc. (OCC) is a group of professional individuals, mostly from Washington, DC and its surrounding areas, interested in off-highway driving.
OCC's main goal is to promote and participate in safe responsible off-highway vehicle (OHV) driving and to participate in and have a positive impact on the community. OCC members are concerned with social issues surrounding OHV driving in the United States, such as public forest road closures, wilderness proposals and proclamations, and the poor public image of off-highway drivers.
OCC supports Tread Lightly!, and is incorporated under the laws of Virginia as a Non-Profit Organization. [Note: OCC membership includes an individual membership in Virginia Four Wheel Drive and United Four Wheel Drive Associations.]
OCC's primary activities are OHV driving, trail maintenance, helping each other build our OHV rigs, socializing, camping, and fighting the OHV road closures. The club meets once a month for a group meeting. These meetings are held at 6:30pm on the second Sunday of the month at Kilroy's in Springfield.
This year there have been at least 2 trail rides a month. These runs can vary from an easy drive through the forests to hard-core weekend trips and organized events such as Big Dogs. OCC will often join other nearby associations for other group activities. We have adopted one road in the George Washington National Forest and we are responsible for the clean up, removal of trash, and some maintenance of the road.
OCC is a close-knit group of people that enjoys the company of its other members. "Wrench-a-thons" and get togethers are common. We promote safe and prepared wheeling. If there is a member that needs information or help OCC is always there to help out. New comers are always made to feel welcome and never made to feel that their questions are insignificant. If you need any assistance in hosting a run, here are some pointers.
OCC started on the Internet with an electronic mail list of DC Metro-area off-highway driving enthusiasts. Communications grew to the point that an official membership association was formed. OCC uses the Internet to further enhance the communications to all its members. However, it is not necessary to have access to electronic mail or the Internet to become a member, but it is highly recommended since all trips and information is relayed via Yahoo! Groups.
Membership is open to anyone eighteen (18) years or older who wishes to participate, regardless of whether or not their vehicle has off-highway driving capabilities. Members are always encouraged to bring their families to club events.
